One design challenge Willis faced was creating a rib structure to increase the kayak's strength and reduce its weight. Using Autodesk® Fusion 360™'s integrated design tool, which combines industrial and mechanical design, he was able to create a stronger, lighter structure.

As both designer and entrepreneur, practical business concerns are central to Willis' creative process. Using Fusion 360™, Willis and his team developed a new coaming [the raised edge around the cockpit, to which spray skirts attach] design that will be less expensive to produce and easier to assemble in manufacturing.

Next, Willis began crafting a new handle, featuring a snap-in interface designed to work with the kayak’s updated coamings. Achieving the snap-to-connect effect he wanted was an iterative process, requiring lots of virtual trial and error. Fusion 360™’s all-in-one access made staying on top of changes and building on each other’s work, seamless for Willis and his team.

One of the greatest challenges design teams face while collaborating on products is tracking files and revisions while simultaneously sharing work. Fusion 360™’s advanced collaboration feature—including secure project dashboard—allowed Willis and his team to collaborate quickly, easily and remotely.
