Founder and President
Born in Tehran, Iran in 1956, Sohrab Vossoughi moved to the United States in 1971. After studying mechanical engineering for three years, he switched to study industrial design. He graduated from San Jose State University’s Department of Industrial Design in 1979 and joined Hewlett-Packard Corp. In 1982, he began independent consulting for startup companies in Portland, Ore. By 1984, he had launched a product development firm he named ZIBA Design.
Sohrab Vossoughi is the founder and president of ZIBA Design. He provides leadership on projects for an extensive client list that includes McDonald's, FedEx, Hyundai, Whirlpool, Xerox, Black & Decker, Ford, Hewlett-Packard, Intel, Samsung, Fujitsu, Microsoft, National/Panasonic, NCR, Nike, Pioneer, Sanyo, Sony, Coleman and many others, from entrepreneurial startup firms to Fortune 50 companies. His work in product development includes consumer products, consumer electronics, computers, medical instruments, household appliances, precision laboratory measurement equipment, furniture, fitness equipment, interiors and office systems. He has been a visiting professor, lecturer and guest speaker at many national and international universities and conferences. In 1993 he was the featured guest speaker on design for the U.S. Government tour to American Centers throughout Japan. He has been a juror to many national and international design competitions. He is a member of advisory council to the Design Management Institute and, has been the elected advisor to the Hong Kong Productivity Council in Hong Kong since 1998. In 1992, Sohrab was named Entrepreneur of the Year by Business Week magazine. He was selected as one of the 100 Global Leaders of Tomorrow and selected for membership in the World Economic Forum in Geneva, Switzerland in 1994. He also was elected one of the 40 most influential designers in the United States by International Design Magazine in 1994. He was elected to be a member of the World Technology Network in the area of design in 2000. Sohrab and ZIBA have been the subject of several national and international television design and business programs. Over the years, ZIBA has received more awards per employee than any other design firm in the world.
