An Artist Sculpts With Sound [Slideshow]

Zimoun is a Swiss artist who uses sound the way painters use oils. His sound canvases are pretty minimal — microphones hovering over tables filled with whipping tubes, or rustling plastic bags, or bug-infested tree bark. The result: a hypnotic drone, like auditory Valium. See (and hear) it here:

Zimoun’s work also photographs exquisitely. All the instruments are handmade, and are designed with the precision and simplicity of a Swiss watch. Above, we’ve compiled some of his best pieces.
