Matching makeup to skin tone can be tough—often, even the most varied beauty brand won’t have the perfect shade for every customer. So the scientists at L’Oréal’s Technology Incubator designed Le Teint Particulier, a process that provides an exact hue of foundation for everyone. After taking a client’s facial scan with a colorometer that averages three different focal points into a single tone, a Lancôme adviser will adjust an algorithm to blend a one-off product from 20,000 pigments; the info is kept on file so the client can come back for refills at any time.
